We use it every Thanksgiving at least. To answer an earlier question, yes you can make gravy in it easily. Just set it on the stove so it spans two burners and proceed as you normally would. Ours has a great deal of patina, but it is all on the outside so no problem . Wish there was a way to post a picture.Braznoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12607750.post-89668307208649376152017-11-23T08:13:54.008-08:002017-11-23T08:13:54.008-08:00I got my Savory Roaster at my favorite Thrift Stor...I got my Savory Roaster at my favorite Thrift Store for $1.00 about 6 months ago and have made Ribs, a Whole Chicken & a Turkey Breast. Since then I'm obsessed with searching these out at antique shops. I have 10 in different sizes and colors. Found one this weekend with an original wire rack inside.I also found the same body style with a crown design and the word crown on the lid. I usually stay away if its not a savory but bought this one anyway. prices have been $30.00 to $65.00. Food prepared in these cookers really do taste better and the vegetables don't get mushy. If you don't eat meat I've put whole yams in with a little water and I've printed out two copies of this blog and comments to put inside the savory I'm giving my daughters who recently married. Thank you so much for the invaluable informationAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12607750.post-66592611933916054592016-11-19T05:25:51.460-08:002016-11-19T05:25:51.460-08:00My mother has one of the two large Savory roasters...My mother has one of the two large Savory roasters purchased by my great-grandmother in 1917 for the double wedding (11/1/1917) of two of my great-aunts. I have collected old kitchen ware for years. To clean rust I use a soapy SOS pad and elbow grease. To remove burnt on gunky grease, the very best thing I've found is Dawn Power Dissolver in a blue spray bottle (I assume by the makers of Dawn dishwashing liquid.) It has no bad smell, doesn't harm my hands (but to be on the safe side you probably should use gloves.) You spray it on, let it sit awhile, and with the use of an old toothbrush you can get just about anything cleaned off from aluminum and stainless to graniteware. I'm amazed at how well it works - too late for me, because one of my many hobbies for years was finding greasy dirty but beautiful old coffee pots and bakeware and polishing them to a brand-new shine with Brillo. (These days SOS pads work better.) I wish I'd had it then!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12607750.post-42162514027496719072015-12-15T08:16:11.910-08:002015-12-15T08:16:11.910-08:00hello mohammad...if you do a google search for hyd...hello mohammad...if you do a google search for hydroponic supplies in florida you will find several links.
this is the one near us: https://www.hydrostacker.com/ i am not sure about how to grow hydroponic because we don't do it. but these folks can help you to figure out what you need. best of luck!polly + dieterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04922772543035012854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12607750.post-72918333079683351832015-12-14T11:48:58.282-08:002015-12-14T11:48:58.282-08:00Hello

I inherited a "junior" from my mother who had married a much older man who came with a trousseau of the pans he had had all of his life.. I found a "senior" on eBay. If the turkey we bought today fits in senior, we shall certainly be using it. Everything I have ever cooked in junior has been excellent. I set a small poultry oval rack for lifting hot items such as a turkey from the roaster. primarily I use it to keep the turkey from sitting directly in the juices.

The beauty of the roaster is that bird will brown with the lid on, but normally I start off with the lid off and then after 1/3 of the cooking time I return the lid and allow the juices to accumulate. Use your best judgement and roast at recommended time and temperature and your bird will be most likely the most tender and juicy bird ever.

Happy Thanksgiving!
